Freedom of speech

What is freedom of speech? We have the freedom to speak or mind as long we are not obscene.  Our government and judicial systems gets to decide what is categorized as obscene freedom of speech. Take for instance a case in Burlington, Conn. where a former high school student at Lewis Mills High School cried freedom of speech after being punish for berating public school administrators with vulgar language in 2007. In this case the courts have ruled in favor of the school district. I believe this was completely uncalled for by the student and that she has no legal standing on freedom of speech. She violated her right of free speech by posting obscenities. The First Amendment right of freedom of speech is very specific about not protecting obscenity and reserves the right to classify whether or not to consider as such. I think that many people are quick to cry free speech when really they need to consider what they have said/done in this case and then make a decision on whether or not to pursue the claim of free speech. I believe in this cause the high school student should be held accountable for her actions as it would set the standard  for other students. Far to often we allow these kinds of things to go unpunished and therefore the students do not take their actions seriously. It is very important to teach the lesson that you can't go around saying whatever you want to the extent of bashing, berating, or slamming other people. This has proven to be true by the government regulating obscenities. We all should be aware of what we say. Famous quote by Thumper"If you don't have anything nice to say don't say nothing at all."

Professors!

I have been so excited about going back to school. I am 32 years old with a husband and 5 children so my life tends to be a little crazy at times. So going back to school is quite a challenge. I have chosen to take two classes English and Math. Both being two of my biggest weaknesses but I will have to say that I am starting to get back into the swing of things. Both of my professors have been great so far.
If I had to describe my math professor with one word it would be "Commanding One". She is an amazing teacher and person. Her loud boisterous voice commands the attention of her students. She is fun and vibrant with her teaching styles. Commanding One Loves her job and takes pride in her work. Like an officer conducts class in a orderly manner and she doesn't take kindly to disruptions. Over all she is a great college professor.
My other college professor is "The Perplexer". While being a great professor he has the tendency to make his students feel a little befuddled at times. He is a great teacher and students feel like they can be comfortable in his class. He is organized and his students like him. When asked a question he is very precise about answering their questions and they feel confident with the answers they have received. Overall I think he loves what he does and it shows through his positive attitude in the class room .

Letters to Juliet

Letters to Juliet starts in the beautiful busy city of New York. Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is walking through the busy city making phone calls to confirm facts because she is a fact finder for a local magazine. Sophie is engaged to be married. She and her fiancé are leaving the following morning on a trip to Verona Italy for a pre-wedding honey moon. Sophie's fiancé is opening a restaurant  in New York city soon so this honey moon is also sort of a business trip. When they arrive in Verona Sophie finds this neat place where woman go to write to Juliet about their love lives and they stick their letters in this wall. So Sophie gets invited by a group of ladies to respond to these letters. In the meantime her fiancé is traveling the country in search of products for his business. Sophie finds a letter written to Juliet from over 40 years ago and writes a letter thinking it might never reach the writer. Little does she know that it does reach the writer and that they will be paying Sophie a visit. Sophie then meets this writer named Claire (Vanessa Redgrave) and her grandson Charlie (Christopher Egan) and they all decide to go on a hunt for Claire's Lorenzo or "Romeo". Sophie is on the adventure of a lifetime where she then finds herself falling in love with Charlie (Christopher Egan) but she is still engaged so she has to make a decision. The ending of the movie is in Verona Italy at the Wedding of Claire and Lorenzo where Sophie tells Charlie that she loves him and they live happily ever after. This was definitely a girl movie but my husband really liked it also. So I would not consider it a total chick flick but a good date night movie because it just makes you think about what made you fall in love!

Jesus Culture: Your Love Never Fails

This song starts with instrumental and then a declaration of truths about God and how we are so imperfect but his mercy is new every morning and he loves us anyway. It then goes into the chorus to express how God is the same through out all the ages and his love never changes.God makes all things work together for our good no matter how bad it may seem he loves me and nothing I can do will make him not love me. I think this song give a great depiction of who and what God is.

Public Schooling vs. Homeschooling

Some say that home schooled children are isolated and poorly socialized. This is a major misconception of many people. Home school has evolved over the past 20 years because of the rapid rise in homeschooling families. You now have a great variety of things to choose from being a home school parent. We have technology at our disposal and not to mention all the extra educational activities you have access to like a wide variety of sports, field trips, home school groups, music, art, PE, and that's just to name a few. I believe the days of thinking home schooled children are poorly socialized and isolated are over. some people have also said that homeschooling parents are selfish. I would say that it is my prerogative to be selfish. There will come a time when they have to go into this word and it is my job as a parent to make sure that they are ready.  I think the person who says we are selfish should step back and ask themselves what are  the reasons a parent might want to home school. First look at the fact our educational systems are failing our students. I am 32 and live in a good area and I have seen my surrounding school system change drastically and not for the better. The demographics have changed so drastically over the past 5 years.  Should the quality of our education change? NO we should give the more economically disadvantaged children the same education. I am seeing this happen in my local school system. As a society it is our job to fight for the rights of the economically disadvantaged children. Another major reason parents home school is because they want them to be taught spiritual truths from the word of God. One of the biggest mistakes our country ever made was to remove prayer and bible reading from the public schools. When these 2 things were removed in the 60's it caused a downward spiral of morals and accountability in our schools and in our society. Teaching the bible and praying to the one and only true God instills a reverent fear of God. A reverent fear of God is what so many of us lack. Think about the fact that children are killing other children. If they had a fear of God or a chance to believe in God that it would make them think twice about their actions. It would give our children  hope. The children who are taught to pray and seek God at home are the fortunate one's. Unfortunately they have to deal with the infiltration of crap the schools are packed full of.  I believe if  we turned back to God starting with our schools and Government we would see a drastic change in our country. With that said many parents have been forced into Homeschooling because of the moral decay in our public schools.
